New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott visits CSIHSIS.

Annual Poetry Slam

The College of High School for International Studies is proud to announce its 5th annual Poetry Slam will take place on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 5:30 PM at the Jerome Parker Campus auditorium, 100 Essex Drive, Staten Island, NY 10314. CSIHSIS welcomes back poet-in-residence, Lamont Dixon (aka Napalm da bomb) who will be emceeing the event in which tenth grade students celebrate the completion of their unit on poetry facilitated by teachers Melissa Orlando, Jennifer Schonwetter, and Amanda Lanceter under the tutelage of Principal Joseph Canale and Assistant Principal Lauren Torres. Selected students will compete in slam performances which will be scored by judges comprised of students, school staff, and Dr. David Allen of The College of Staten Island, educator and innovator in the field of teacher education. Various students and staff will also be sharing in the event by reading their original poetry. Overall, it will be an exciting night of competition, celebration, but most of all, poetry. All are welcome to attend, and admission is free.

CSIM Dragons Wrestling Shines at 2012 NYC Mayor's Cup Championships!

More than 500 of the City's best male and female high school wrestlers from over 75 teams in the Public School Athletic League, Catholic High School Athletic Association and Independent Shools competed in the NYC Mayor's Cup Wrestling Championships for a chance to be crowned the Best in the City. Sher Mohammad (160lbs) finshed 3rd, and Ben Wasserman (182lbs) finished 4th overall in the Boys Division. Laura Zomchick (285) finished 1st overall in the Girls Division. The three wrestlers are the first to medal in the school/team history.

In just its 2nd varsity season, the Dragons Wrestling team finished the the 2 day even in style, taking home the 2012 John Zoulis Sportsmanship Award, voted on by coaches and referees to the team which conducts in the motto of our team: "Pride. Class. Success"
